KITCHEN TABLE CONVERSATIONS
A conversation between locals about things that matter
A Kitchen Table Conversation is a simple and powerful way for people to speak about what matters to them in a safe and comfortable environment.
Each participant responds to 6 questions on the themes of community, issues and concerns, and political representation. Responses will be collated anonymously and be part of a report that VoTE will share with our political representatives and candidates in upcoming elections. VoTE’s 2024 report can be found at https://www.voicesofthetopend.com/2024report
Why join a Kitchen Table Conversation?
It's important that our political representatives hear what matters to us and what we expect from them as our representatives. That’s when democracy works best.
KTC Frequently Asked Questions:
- Do I have to be enrolled to vote to participate?
Answer: No, this is a forum for everyone who lives in our community.
- Does the KTC have to be held at someone’s private home?
Answer: No, a KTC just needs to be held somewhere comfortable where participants have access to water, snacks and facilities. It should also be quiet enough to hear what people are saying. On verandahs, under houses, in parks, in pubs or in cafes are all options.
- Who are the participants?
Answer: We aim for around 6-8 participants. These may be people the host already knows or may be part of a community group. Often people enjoy attending a KTC with people outside of their usual circle of friends where they can hear different points of view. VoTE can help bring different participants together if you would prefer to participate that way.
- Is this open to all suburbs?
Answer: Yes, it is open to all of the greater Darwin area including Palmerston and Litchfield Council areas. If you live outside these areas and are keen to be involved please get in touch to discuss options.
VoTE thanks the Voices of Mackellar for use of their material.
